Beginners Guide to Buying Lift Kits Online

Want to buy a lift kit for your truck, but don't want to make a big mistake?  Here are tips and tricks from the experts to help you land the perfect kit for you and your truck:

1)  Go for quality above all else. Your factory suspension is finely tuned to keep your truck safely planted to the ground.  A quality lift kit will keep your factory suspension angles without over-stressing the OEM parts. That keeps you driving safely while providing a comfortable ride. A quality suspension lift kit will be easier to install, and will provide a warranty to protect you from any unforseen issues down the road. All BDS Suspension, Zone Offroad, and JKS kits come with a NO FINE PRINT WARRANTY.

2)  Know WHAT you drive.  That means knowing the year, make, and model of your truck. You also may need to know the sub model, drive type (2wd or 4wd), engine size and type, and wheel size, to name a few things. Some vehicles come from the factory with certain types of knuckles, air suspension, and other unique features that will determine what type of lift kit you can use. Spend some time getting to know your vehicle, check out some forums, and you will make a better decision with fewer regrets.

3)  Know HOW you drive. Is your truck a daily driver or a weekend warrior? Do you often carry passengers? Will they struggle getting in and out of your newly lifted truck? Do you tow very often? Do you use the bed regulary? Thinking about these things will help you decide which kit in what size is best for you long term.

4)  Are you keeping your factory wheels and tires, or upgrading them? Different kits will require various tire and wheel combinations. Pay close attention to this detail so you can keep the wheels and tires you want. The wheels sizing options on each kit on our site are under the "Important Notes" tab.

5)  Know who is installing your lift kit. As we said earlier, your suspension is important to the safe driving of your truck. Be real with yourself about your skill level on an install like this. These kits come in many boxes, with many parts, and some require special tools. If you can do it, great! Roll up your sleeves and get after it. If not, also great! Choose a professional to do it for you, and you won't spend a long weekend cursing and throwing tools all over the garage. Our BDS Suspension kits show the difficulty of the install and the average install time under the "Important Notes" tab on our site to help you decide which way to go.

6)  Is bigger really better? We have been around long enough in this industry to see that there IS such a thing as "Too Big".  We had a customer agonize over the decision between a 4" and 6" kit. Both fit the tires he wanted. Both had great warranties and similar install times. He opted for the 6" kit.  A few weeks later he reached out to tell us his big, beautiful, bad ass truck was too tall to fit in his garage. He lives in a part of the country that gets a lot of snow and rain, and he was very disappointed he couldn't garage his pride and joy. To add insult to injury, he pulled out a tape measure and found out the 4" lift would have allowed him into his garage.

7)  Ask! We are here to answer any questions you might have. You can call, email, or Live Chat with us. We want you to make the best decision possible so you can get the most enjoyment out of your lifted truck.
